First question, since this isn't worthy of a DIYer posting.
Two weeks ago I ordered a replacement air hose for an 88 M103 from Phil. It came and I put it in between the air scoop and the air filter housing. My question is this. My old "collar" which attaches to the air filter unit had a little plastic plug in the hole which is on the outboard side of the collar in the ceter of a raised round portion. The new one didn't come with one. So, I popped the old one out and before I put it back in the new hose, I am wondering about the need to do so.

My edumacated guess is that this "plug" and hole serve to provide a little warmer air ferom the engine compartment in colder climates? Or does it serve some completely different purpose, unrelated to intake air temps? Here (in NJ), the car ran fine with the plug in the old one, and it runs fine without the plug in the new one. Can't imagine it makes a dimes worth of difference, but I'm more curious than anything.
