If reservoir was empty, there was a leak. Period.com. That goop doesn't evaporate at all, so I'd want to know where the fluid went.

In terms of testing the system, I would simply put a considerable amount of weight in the trunk (say, 4-5 bags of sand) and then drive the car a short bit...is the rear sagging at the end of the ride? 'Cuz it shouldn't be...
