I have 1995 S420 and the check engine light is on and has been for some time now. I have replaced the wiring harness,the airflow meter, the throttle actuator, intake manifold gaskets. When I unplug the battary the light gose out only a short while. So I read the post about the little red light under the hood. I tried it, it flashed 6 times. Also, at times the engine surges high when you first start it to about 1500 to 2000 only after it is warmed up and shut off and re-started, but once in gear it runs and drives smoothly.
