I was under the impression that if there was if the defcon level went up jets were scrambled as a precaution. Is this not true?

North Korea is one place that calls out for boost phase missile defense. It's the only type that's likely to work on ICBMs anyway and given NK's relatively small size, and the closeness to them of our allies, wouldn't be that hard to pull off. Might actually be something like that in place surreptitiously, who knows.
