I drove my SDL with an open downpipe for a few days while locating a used factory downpipe back exhaust. Noticed zero loss of power when it was attached. But I did notice a great drop in sound so I could hear myself think while driving again.

I suppose there can be some drop in EGT with it, but marginal at best. The thing makes 143hp new, that 2.25 or 2.5" downpipe is really just not restrictive.



FWIW, when I replaced the exhaust on my 300SEL with another factory setup, I cut up the factory stuff... it was basically like a Magnaflow style. Not a reverse flow like you used to find on old pickup trucks in the 80s.
