It's being done to prove some type of point, a point I find hard to grasp or understand its full reason.
At this time, there are MANY LOCAL CITIZENS that don't want anything related to Islam to be near the area.
But, as usual, (pardon the pun) those that don't have a dog in the fight think they know better than those that live, breathe, eat and work in the area.
And we, the rest of the "outsiders" are doing our best to keep the flames roaring higher and higher by weighing in where angels fear to tread.
Good luck to us.

this is america.
i despise all religions, because i think they are all scams that prey on people, and indoctrinate them. but that doesn't mean diddly.
if this country wants to portray itself as the "land of the free", with religious freedom for all, and freedom of expression etc. then the mosque people should be able to build the mosque anywhere they d*(& well please. you can't have "religious freedom", say, 87% of the time. or when you happen to be in the mood. it's a rare, true, black/white issue.
the "local control" issue is just a retread of the "states' rights" angle, used to defend such noble, "local" customs as slavery and segregation.
remember - i think muslims are idiots, who believe in some silly old fairy tales. however, they should be able to bow to mecca, from anywhere they
wish.
otherwise, just cancel the bill of rights tomorrow.
