It took me a couple of days before I got to the car - with a different battery.
To my great relief car started up immediately, so my fear of damage (from the spark) was unfounded.

All systems seem ok but I disconnected the positive lead of the battery for now, before embarking on the real project - tracing what caused this all- the power drain.
