Is the back of the new piece wood or some other material? Is that vinyl or plastic that you're trying to glue onto?

Generally, any of the 3M or equivalent Trim Adhesives, spray or paste, will work well. These are contact cement essentially, so coating/spraying both pieces is necessary.
