Marvel Mystery Oil. I used to go between 8000-10000 intervals with M1 0W-40, but because I blew a cam oiler tube, and replacing the tube and the afflicted lifter didn't remove the ticking, so I've been going very frequent oil changes.

Btw, after such long intervals, when I disassembled the lifters, there was indeed a lot of carbon particles in the working chambers, even though the rest of the motor oil was fine (dark, but no crud).

For sure, we must be having a difference in terminology. Tappets are HLA's (hydraulic lash adjusters, also called cam followers), and the M119 has flat bucket tappets. Btw, in your example of the rocker arm design, it would be cam lobe > tappet > push rod > rocker arm > valve stem.
