Maybe I'm the odd-man-out, but I use my windows and sunroof constantly, only use A/C when it is un-bearably hot, which means that both RT windows go down and up a minimum of 2x/day, more if I go anywhere other than the office as I always close and lock my car.

I've been doing this through several 124s starting in '91 with my TE. I have NEVER had a problem with a rear window regulator, even with this use and my children loving to continuously run windows, ...

I have had one driver's window regulator fail, a used '87 300D that had a stripped gear near the top, a smoker's car where the window was apparently used as an ashtray opening and closing that last 2" regularly (indicated by the burned felt).

I don't understand how this is a bad design, but then I'm one of few on this forum who has owned 124s new, so most of us are buying someone else's trouble, ... hard to know how it was serviced/used etc.

Last, I have removed several window regulators from 124s, have them sitting around in case I ever need one, from my own parts cars and from junkyard find 124s, all of them were without batteries and needed to be removed with the windows completely closed. There is NO REASON to drill or damage the regulator to remove it on a 124, just remove all of the 10mm hex-nuts holding the regulator assembly to the door, it will drop down. Really that simple.
