Well what the heck!

My 85 300CD whistles too...in the lower vacuum transition between acc/deceleration...I have been hunting for the offending noise, but as yet unable to locate...to me is sounds like it originates somewhere under the car...any ideas about that? What's under there that COULD whistle?
