use ethernet when you can. the phonelink technology is ok but can be prone to AC interference depending on location. also, i don't know if you are using the same line for DSL or a dedicated phone line. while in theory analog voice + digital data should all work together i have heard otherwise.
re: DSL=> if cable is available - you should consider that. it is cheaper and much faster than DSL for less money.
