Here's my two cents. In my observation, cars that have a clear coat gets degraded faster and look like crap if waxed regularly than cars that have not been waxed. This is over a 10-15 year period with my own cars.

The short term benefit is the waxed cars definitely look better then the unwaxed counter part. So it boils down preference.
