I just bought a 1997 S500. THe owner doesn't have the keyless remote key, but does have another plain style key. He claims that the key he has (which turns the ignition BTW) doesn't have the "chip" in it so the anti-theft prevents the car from starting.
I find it hard to believe that Mercedes would make a key that unlocks the doors, and turn the ignition without that key being able to start the car. Anyone buy that? If so, is there a way to bypass the anti-theft, so that I can drive this car?
He says that it'll start if he pours some gas down the throttle, yet claims that since he doesn't have the "right" key, the ignition is disabled.
Well anyway, I haven't picked up the car yet and I won't know what's going on until I get it.
