I did this to my '86 420 right after I got it. I used a rachet strap to pull the lower control arm a little forward. I don't remember having to press anything in or out. All I had was basic tools.I removed the cast aluminum bracket, and I got a kit I think from one of the vendors on this site, and it had all the parts. I counted the number of turns needed to unscrew the arm, and put it back with the same number of turns. I haven't had any trouble and that was about 7 years ago.
