I THINK you can keep separate accounts but I am not sure that you can so easily separate the finances in the eyes of the law. Lets say my father bought me a house and we lived in it. Is that totally mine? Sure. However, if we divorce, I THINK it would be hard to prove beyond reasonable doubt that none of HER earnings went towards the maintenance of the house and therefore it would be hard to cut her out. OTOH, if we got divorced right after my parents bought me the house, I think that case is easy. After a bunch of years, I think it is now muddy waters.
