I once challenged a taxi on the 59th street bridge. DB was behind me and decided to move left and try to get one vehicle ahead before the lanes merged. We smacked mirrors before he gave up. Fortunately for me, I was slightly behind his mirror and the SDL's mirror folded nicely rearward and immediately returned to it's designed position.
There was a merging lane here CA that nearly led to that. She wanted to do a quick pass thinking her Infiniti has more power and can cut me off but I saw that coming and blocker her off just in time for her to realize there's a metal barrier already in front of her, so she slammed on the brakes and followed behind me.

Overpopulation (of vehicles) is what causes this, from what I've seen anyway.
