HOLD the brake pedal down tight, then put the key in to the crank position and run the shifter back and forth, it might be out of adjustment to the point where it will only crank in gear (reverse or drive), have seen it before.
It's possible that you actually have worn shift rod bushings, might not be the NSS.
Car will definitely crank w/o the OVP. Will RUN without the OVP. Will RUN without the ECU, actually!
