Man. Rough crowd.
I am not sure exactly what BMW is the recipient of the OM605 in the above listed project, but damn, what a sweet motor/build.
Sitting in traffic this past week I was wondering about building a W201 race car powered by an OM605/6 with a 5 or 6 speed manual trans. It would have the potential to be lethal in the grassroots club racing environment. Assuming it could be made to handle well with reasonable effort.
I get to drive many BMWs on the race track, and have only driven a few MBs. I have to say at this point, it seems the BMW is superior. Until I drive a benz that is more nimble and forgiving, I wont be changing my mind.
I love the handling characteristics of my MBs, but they have no track prowess. That is fine, since I purchased them to be fine luxury automobiles. My wife and daughter are in a benz, as I feel they are more safe.
I give the bimmer some credit. (E30, E36, E46).
