Here in Europe, the cheapest-of-the-cheap cars had the big clock and no tachometer. Typically found on the smallest engines (200/200E gasoline, 200D/250D), but can also be found on the 230E and 300D. All turbodiesels and 6-cylinder gasoline engines have got a tachometer, and after the 1990 facelift, nearly, if not all cars had the tacho, no matter what engine.
