McConnell made it clear that the Republican agenda is first and foremost to defeat the Dear Leader in 2012 as that is the only possible way to stop his agenda, reverse his agenda, and to make any progress on the Republican agenda. He specifically said that when the Dear Leaders agenda coincides with the electorate the Republicans will be open to working with him, when his agenda does not coincide with the electorate the Republicans will work against his agenda.

How different would it be if the situation were reversed? It is all about setting the tone for the next few years or at least, trying to. Also it is about giving the illusion to the people that they are there for you.
Well, no kidding. What they don't mention is the agenda is for the elected to get re-elected. Why people refuse to understand that is beyond me. Dems will say Reps are scum and their people really care. Reps will say the opposite. Fact is, the elected are people. They care about 1 thing. WIIFM. If it comes down to a choice between their party and their political skin, I have no doubts which way they will lean. When that isn't an issue, the party gets served since the party brings good things to them. When all else is said and done, if you get served, so be it. People are going to be people regardless of which party they belong to.
