For the record, there is a rubber boot of sorts around the shifter on a 126. There was at least 1 part change mid year 85 which makes VIN important information. Previous PN will not fit correctly. This is at least applicable to my 85SD. Price ~$12 available here & elsewhere. Be careful when removing the old part so you don't break the plastic that holds the boot.
