there are a few common things that can mess up the blinkers.

-a relay right under the ashtray
-bad light bulbs
-bad electrical grounds (engine bay, trunk?, and behind the gauges)
-malfunctioning flasher switch

Were the hazards actually flashing when you thought they were 'working'?
