Every town and city in the US has the "working poor" and the numbers are growing fast. In this economy it doesn't take long to go from getting by paying the bills to not having enough money to feed the family. While you may think most people using food stamps are lazy no good bums, and some are, the truth is many are hard working tax paying Americans that are having a hard time feeding their families. ... I have never been in a position of facing that reality, but the truth is it could happen to the majority of Americans. I'm grateful for what I have and am aware of those that are not as fortunate. What I don't understand are those that enjoy a good standard of living but feel the need to denigrate the poor. I for one am proud we live in a country that doesn't let the poor go hungry and wander the streets for handouts. If it costs me a few extra dollars to maintain a civil society, then it's worth every penny to do it.
Good for you.

I, once, got paid minimum wage. I, once, worked along side the union folks, getting paid just ABOVE the minimum wage and when they came back from their strike, they had more and I still had the same.

HOWEVER, I didn't run through the streets screaming that I got ripped off and someone else got better treatment than me.

I went out, continued to CLIMB my chosen ladder of success and now, with no help from unions, politicians or nanny-state programs, I'm doing damn well, thank you.

What gauls me more than anything is seeing politicians, union folks, Hollyweird NoNothings and perfectly tuned bodies all sit around and scream that the "rich" are getting richer and the poor are getting poorer and that "we all" need to help the "unfortunate."

Bull54it.

No politician is getting elected again and again by folks that have a higher moral fiber than the man himself.

Correct me if I'm wrong in this statement, "Rangle is considered quite respectable in his district."

It takes pigs to wallow with pigs.

Some just smell worse to others.

To the majority OUTSIDE the pig sty...they all smell the same.

Speaking of wallowing...Chicago has another "crazy" jumping into the Mayor's cesspool..er...Race there...ex-Senator, Carol Moseley Braun.

Can't any campaign find anything but unpolished turds to present to their constituents as acceptable candidates?

And as for helping out those less fortunate? I've already made plans for Thanksgiving and they don't involve my family, or even me. I'm heading to the local Community Thanksgiving Meal and giving of myself for the whole day...either brewing umpteen-hundred gallons of pure, black coffee, driving around and delivering food to the shut ins or whatever the organizers need done for the day.

Afterwards?

Who knows? I'll probably knock back a bowl of CocoCrunchies with some milk and wallow in self-abusive-lactose-intolerant bliss all by myself. (Pardon the pun, but I don't think that came out right...)

But, I'm not going to let some cretin of an elected official spoil my way of life by him claiming he's above and beyond reproach due to the fact that he's a representative "of the people" that elected him.

All he's done now, at this point, is narrow down and eliminate another area of the country that I was, at one time, just maybe, willing to visit.
