Do you really think it was any different 50, or 100, years ago. If anything, the level of corruption in government is probably less today because the media is willing to report some of these "indiscretions." Can you imagine today's media during Andrew Jackson's administration, or even JFK's?

George Washington actually made Hamilton the first Treasury Secretary, he promptly did things that should have landed him in prison. Washington told him to clean up his act and let him stay, now he's on the ten dollar bill.

What you have just "discovered" has been business as usual for every government on the planet for as long as there have been governments. It's also fun to read old american newspaper editorials; they are full of "hell in a hand basket" rants, starting from the John Addams administration; those kids who don't remember the revolution have no respect.... blah, blah, blah... get off my pasture.
