My parents seem to have the same luck when it comes to new cars.

Here is something they have done regularly that doesn't cost too much. If the Insurance company doesn't replace your car then take the maximum amount they will pay out to repair the car.

Then go to the dealership and ask them how much it will cost to trade in the car as is. They usually don't subtract the full amount of the damages from the cars value since they get parts at cost and have connections with body shops. You get a new car and they repair the old one. The money recieved by the Insurance company goes toward paying the difference. You will lose a little money but nothing significant.
