Cable drive on all 124s.

Standard failure on the 124 odometer is the plastic pinion slipping off of the number-wheel shaft (driven by the worm gear). I have had excellent luck with a little epoxy applied with a needle and sliding the gear back into place, be sure not to get any epoxy on the adjacent parts of course.

Sliding the gear back into place will work for about 100miles-1000miles from my experience if you don't use the epoxy.
