Whenever you have very weird electrical problems like yours, always check to see that your main ground connection is rust free. Remove the bolt from the body under the hood, clean up the body where the bolt attaches. If this doesn't solve your problem, check out the ground strap under the car and then work through all the other grounds. Major ones just behind the instrument cluster, too.
