As far as I'm concerned the 60X series up until they replaced them with the V6 in the Bluetec are the best diesels MB has ever made.

Having worked on both I find the 60X's better to work on than the 617's. For example starter placement sucks on the 617, also they use V belts which suck.

The only thing that the 617 has that's nicer is a manual priming pump, on the newer ones you just crank the heck out of it which IMHO isn't as good of a solution, but it works.
