I believe it is actually only 70 amps. This is what I have in my '89 300CE and I would think you would have the same unit, unless yours has been changed before. Some people have upgraded to a 143 amp unit from a late 90s SL or S-Class. This is something that I will probably be doing in the near future. A good used unit can be had for relatively cheap ($100-150) and modified for the M103. If you do a search you will find more info on the swap.
