I did a lot of combined forces activity with the Germans, mostly in the 80s. They were somewhat benign, though well equipped and armed. Not a lot of interest in the world, with one exception: it seemed clear, that if the USSR attacked, they would fight to the last man. Surrender was not an option.
There's a reason for that: the Russians already owned half their country.
