American cars have come a long way, I think credit should be given where its due. A 1985 Vette has nothing in common with a 2010 ZR1 but the name. The ZR1 is a well engineered car and on par with anything that's made anywhere else. I think people base their perceptions off 15 year old vehicles, and quite frankly time march's on.
15 years ago GM's were junk, Toyota was king, and MB was on top. Now that's not quite the case. Toyota has fallen and GM is coming on hard.

Honestly, I have trouble getting excited about anything that new regardless of performance. My favorite american cars are still from the 50/60s and my favorite euro cars are from the 60/70s (I cheat and consider my W123s to be 70s cars). I just can't get past the looks of the current vettes or the vipers (or the current ferraris, for that matter), and I would feel very silly driving one.
