Can higher wattage headlight bulbs be installed on the 2000 ML430?

I believe the standard headlights use two 55W H7 bulbs per side.

Can 100W H7 bulbs be substituted without triggering any computer warnings or damaging the wiring? I am assuming that the bulbs will need to at least be installed in pairs (both left and right).

The headlights on the ML430 do no seem project a great deal of light for having 55W Halogen bulbs. Do all four lamps illuminate when high beams are selected?

I have owned over 40 vehicles in my 35+ years of driving, and the lights on the ML seem to be some of the worst (not counting motorcycles and boats). I polished the headlight assembly lenses and it helped a bit.
