Do a VScan, MalWareBytes or your choice.
Verify you do not have sleep enabled, it should come out of it, but I never trusted it.
But I'd vote for a hardware issue.
Make sure you have a backup NOW, in case it's the HD.
Beyond that.
Maybe open up the case, make sure everything is seated tight. Consider removing each part carefully wiping the connector and reseat.
Clean inside too, they get dusty and that causes heat problems.
Check that all the fans are working correctly, including CPU and Video card (if applicable).
