For the shellback ceremony for crossing the equator, the bluenose ceremony for crossing the arctic circle, etc, those are traditions going back hundreds of years in some cases. And if memory serves, back in the 90's the Navy made participation in any of these voluntary - in that case IMHO the PC crowd doesn't have a (peg)leg to stand on.

In my case, I've got the Golden Dragon and Bluenose certificates - with ship, location, and date listed as "classified".
