So what is it that makes some of us liberals and others conservatives?

Seriously.
It seems that almost from birth, some of us are Conservatives, while others are Liberals. Why is that?
In my case, my conservatism seems almost innate. I remember arguing against liberals in every government class I ever had. I never had an epiphany.

Personally, I am a very compassionate, caring individual. I give time and treasure to charities. I do not kick dogs and cats--well not ALL cats. I love my children and my grandchildren. I assist neighbors. I even share my beer. I hate no one--but I may disagree with many.

I do not fit the stereotype of a cold, money-grubbing conservative. I support freedom of speech for everyone--especially those with whom I disagree. I even acknowledge that freedom of religion also applies to people with different beliefs than mine--not that they are "right" in their beliefs, but they have the right to freely practice the religion ( or non-religion) of their choice.

The tendency for everyone is to jump to a conclusion and then pick out the facts that seem to support that conclusion. But has anyone researched into exactly why and how we each develop our particular [political stance?
