This is a concern right up to 2001, in 2002 the switching system changed totally. The 98 through 2001 used the same system, but the switches I beieve were gradually improved upon. 98 and 99 were both about the same when new. In 2000 and 2001, they seemed better, but still not that unusually to have a problem.
We had one tech go from Madison WI to LaCrosse, WI to replace a ML window switch after hours, about 2+ hours one way! DON'T expect this type of service every time though.
You think 100 degree heat with a stuck open window is bad? Try 10 below zero! We're about 60 miles from the Northwest Tollway in Illinois, so we have seen this before, several times. Luckily the ML heater WILL definitely throw out some serious heat in the highest temp setting.
