USAA is great but they don't sell to everybody. They have restrictions based on military service. I have found that dealing with those big companies that do a lot of advertising on TV and promise to save you money has some pitfalls. They low-ball you on the first year premiums then raise them dramatically upon renewal, even without a claim or points on your record.

I had a great long term experience with auto and homeowner's insurance with Erie Insurance Group, but alas, they do not sell in my new home state.
