Thanks for the response. I haven't done a compression check--engine runs strong and produces very adequate power. Valves were done about 70K miles ago when I did the head gasket. I do have a compression tester set up--I'll do a check next time I'm under the hood.

A new vac mod was about $40 last time I checked--maybe (against my better judgement) I'll try the throw parts at it and see if it fixes it approach......
