The cam followers for whatever piston you're working on should be on the base circle (no lift), instead of the lobe of the cam. When the two lobes for a particular cylinder are pointing +/- 45* away from vertical, both followers are on the base circle.

Hear it's a lot easier w/ the bent wrenches. At the very least, I'd hacksaw a 14mm down to 3-1/2 inches or so.
