The FN FAL is a good rifle, EXCEPT the Spanish CETME version, which is a giant mixed up load of junk. Inch pattern LARs or the Herstal FN are both excellent.
G3 is good but a little heavy.
I have fired the AR10 both semi and full auto. Lighter than an M-14 or an M1, lotsa power, will climb a little after 6 rds auto fire.
M1 is in a different class, ditto M-14.
persona;lly, if I were buying any more weapons (I plan to buy a limited number of rifles: a 700 BDL, a 338 w Magnum as a bolt, and a Barrett light 50, that's all--no more) but the AR is nice. Never disappoints any more than the FN
many peole redo the Dragunov stock which seems like it's made for a 5'5 guy or a teen.
Just my 2 cents.

The CENTME is the Spanish version of the HK G-3. Or actaully the forrunner. Also, Galil made a .308 version and possible Valmet. I do have an FN FAL. It was one of the early Century Sporters. I had DSM put an Isreali heavy barrel on it. I haven't completed it yet. I also have a STV-40. They do shoot nice. For some reason they point naturally.
I can't give you any advice as what to pick. I do think DSM does quality work. The other side is accesories and magazines. FN magazines should be fairly available. I forget if the inch and metric mags interchange or not.
