If speedy is correct, the filter you have won't fit my 300SDL.

Is the filter a combination bypass and full flow like the one that fits a 617 engine? I thought only the Diesels used the combination filter but I may be wrong.

We better check the part number but I don't know where a dealer is that sells Hengst.

I looked up the filter in Fastlane. Click on Mercedes Benz, 1987, 300SD, Engine Mechanical, and Oil Filter Kit.

It has a P/N of A6002-21038 but I think that is Fastlane's order number. There is a small picture of the filter there. Click on small picture to enlarge. Does this look like the filter you have?

Just thought of something else: You could take the Hengst filter to a store such as Pep Boys, Auto Zone ETC. where they sell oil filters and compare the Hengst filter to one of any brand on the shelf that fits a 300 SDL. No hurry on this, next time you visit this type of store is fine.
