the thing is perhaps they do it so that nobody knows which kids are getting free lunch and which are not.
I seem to remember two cent milk too. Chocolate was three IIRC......
I used to take my lunch. I was very jealous of the kids who got to buy it. I think I was allowed to buy it on thanksgiving and christmas. I can still remember the taste of the school stuffing. It had too much sage in it. I still don't like sage in stuffing.
I'd get a sandwich of bologna, ham or chicken and an apple orange or bananna and bought the milk. The kids who got to bring twinkies and hostess cupcakes were very much envied!
I took it in a brown bag. Some of the kids got these fancy lunch boxes with Superman or Roy Rogers on them.....or howdy doody....I was really jealous of them too. Some kids even got soup in a thermos.....
