So while sitting at a stop light, in my '85 TD, I hear a thunk and the exhaust gets loud. Light turns green and I can hear part of the exhaust dragging the street.

I know exhaust basics, but that's it. It broke at the "joint" next to the transmission. I had to pull over and yank the 4 rubber thingys that hold the entire exhaust on.. then threw the ass'y in the car to get home, it barley fit.

So what is that joint called? What size do I need? Can I even weld that stuff with my little mig welder, with it possibly being SS?

The rest of the exhaust seems like it's in ok shape. That turbo pipe might be rusty, it was dark out.

PS. I don't know how anyone runs a 617 w/o a muffler. This thing is way too loud for me. But it did accelerate faster.
