Nothing new, academia is more left leaning than anything else. However it is researchers' responsibility to completely eliminate every variable in their studies, that is the nature of research. Researcher bias is one of the top things that any quantitative researcher needs to eliminate before publishing. The fact that this is a NY times article is actually rather embarrassing.
