I got it out.

SirNik, If you want to salvage your maglite: remove the lens head, remove bulb, remove plastic disk that says : "DO NOT REMOVE".

find a mandrel / dowel that fits the inner diameter of the aluminum housing underneath the disk. Drive the mandrel through in the direction that would force the battery out.

viola. Maglite saved.
