I wouldn't waste my money on just a 600 cc bike. You're going to come up short on it real soon. NOT QUICK ENOUGH> Get on up to the 1,100 to 1,300 cc range - then you won't be short on speed, power and quickness. $8K wouldn't cut it for the top-shelf stuff, not new anyway.
I stopped in the Kawasaki/Yamaha dealer up on the Interstate service road about three years ago. I was entranced with the large cc 4 cyl. dual exhaust model bigtime. I asked the friendly bike sales rep. on the floor if he had anything in the 7 or 8 second area. He didn't. He seemed a bit miffed why I'd ask for something that fast. He said the best they had was in the near 10 second 1/4 mile area. If I knew I wouldn't lose a leg or crash one, I'd of bought one years ago - I like speed and especially QUICKNESS as much as a 20 yr. old.
