Clearly the musings of someone not well versed in either car but willing to parrot stereotypes and misconceptions.

Driven both and find that the Boxter is a better drivers car, with great balance and brakes compared to the heavier feeling SLK. The SLK is comfortable and a bit more Mercedes plush, but the auto box isn't really as much fun as the Box.

My brother in law went from a 911RS (loved the car, hated the seating bolsters and lack of golf bag space) and now drives a Boxster S. He finds it to be about 7-8/10ths of the 911, which makes it a good deal.
