Thanks Compu_85, but I ended up going for it, and I think I am pleased.

At another forum several people said they put their holders there, and I saw a nice example posted. So, I went for it. I just couldn't find a good way to make the console work for me.
Actually I took out a screw to check and the vinyl closed up like it hadn't been there. That will change, but I am sure I could patch it well if I need to. I hate disrupting anything on this car, but...
