Dustin, the cause of the blower not working could be as simple as the 30-amp strip fuse (inside a small black plastic box on the driver's side strut tower) being cracked. A replacement strip fuse is a few dollars.

As I recommended previously if you aren't familiar with MB automobiles have a PPI performed by a MB-trained tech who can evaluate the car's condition and what it will cost to make it right.

I'm also skeptical about the grandma story, unless she weighed 300 lbs.
